MUHSEN Zakat
MUHSEN Zakat
Zakat is a sacred trust. It is an obligation owed to Allah and a responsibility toward those He has commanded us to support.
At MUHSEN, Zakat plays a critical role in serving individuals and families living with disabilities who face financial hardship, social barriers, and limited access to Islamic spaces and services. Since our founding, MUHSEN has worked to ensure that people with physical, cognitive, mental, and emotional disabilities are not excluded from the masjid, from Islamic education, or from basic dignity and care.
Through Zakat, donors help provide direct assistance to eligible individuals and families, while also supporting essential services that enable access to Islam, including disability focused education, accessibility accommodations, and support services that many families cannot afford on their own.
Your Zakat allows MUHSEN to serve with both compassion and compliance, ensuring funds are distributed in accordance with Islamic guidance and scholarly oversight.
Zakat Policy
MUHSEN accepts and distributes Zakat in accordance with Islamic jurisprudence and based on a formal fatwa issued by the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA).
Zakat Eligibility
According to the AMJA Resident Fatwa Committee, MUHSEN is Zakat eligible in the following ways:
- Zakat may be used to support individuals with disabilities who qualify as masakeen (those in need) due to financial hardship
- Zakat may be directed toward services that directly benefit eligible recipients
- A group of scholars permit the use of Zakat for certain da‘wah and Islamic educational services that enable access to Islam for people with disabilities
This ruling affirms that MUHSEN may receive Zakat funds and distribute them exclusively to eligible categories as outlined in the fatwa

Commitment to Transparency
MUHSEN recognizes that Zakat is not a general charity. It is an act of worship. For this reason:
- Zakat funds are restricted and not commingled with general donations
- Funds are allocated only to approved Zakat eligible uses
- MUHSEN encourages donors to give Sadaqah when flexibility is desired, allowing Zakat to remain focused on agreed upon categories
Our goal is to honor the amanah of Zakat while serving our community with integrity, care, and accountability.
