MUHSEN’s First Event in Australia: Disability Awareness Night

On Saturday 2 August 2025, MUHSEN Australia together with the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) and Virgin Mary Mosque, Hoppers Crossing held a Disability Awareness Night.

This is the first of many events to be held raising awareness of disability and special needs amongst the Muslim community in Australia.

A big thank you to Sheikh Abdulla Hawari for his important speech about uplifting those with special needs and showing the importance of inclusitivity and acceptance in the Muslim community.

Sr Selima from the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) spoke briefly about the ICV being committed to fostering an inclusive Muslim community that upholds the dignity, rights, and spiritual engagement of people with physical and mental disabilities.

Sr Fatma from MUHSEN Australia spoke about being a parent of a child with special needs, and how the Muslim community can learn understanding and acceptance.

There was also a sensory room with dedicated volunteers, as well as a refreshment table set up for all to enjoy.

A big thank you to all the MUHSEN Australia volunteers who came together and made the event a success.

We look forward to the future events and programs raising awareness and assisting those with disabilities and special needs in the Muslim community.

If you would like to participate in future events, please fill out the needs survey via: MUHSEN.org/RegisterAUS
