MUHSEN Mission

MUHSEN is a nonprofit organization serving families and individuals with intellectual, mental, and physical disabilities. MUHSEN works to establish inclusive and accessible North American Muslim communities for individuals with disabilities and their families. We do this through engaging in community advocacy and education (Awareness) and implementing and encouraging programs and services (Accommodation), leading ultimately to inclusive and welcoming communities (Acceptance).

Role Overview

As a Regional Lead for MUHSEN, you will serve as a dedicated advocate for inclusion and support for individuals with special needs within your assigned region in the Bay Area. Your primary responsibility is to drive the growth of MUHSEN’s initiatives by expanding the network of registered families, strengthening connections with local masjids, and ensuring inclusion becomes an integral part of your community. This role includes a prorated stipend.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the rollout of MUHSEN programs and initiatives, including events, educational workshops, support circles, and accessibility evaluations
• Plan and execute regional events for families and individuals with disabilities while raising awareness about special needs
• Register families and individuals in MUHSEN’s database and expand outreach within the community
• Build relationships with community organizations serving individuals with disabilities and promote awareness of MUHSEN’s programs
• Partner with local organizations to advance MUHSEN’s mission and strengthen its regional presence
• Support and participate in fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including key campaigns during Ramadan
• Recruit and onboard masajids into MUHSEN’s certification program to expand inclusive spaces within the community
• Oversee and support regional facilitators responsible for executing MUHSEN programs
• Maintain regular communication with HQ staff, providing updates and reporting on regional activities
• Foster and promote MUHSEN’s culture of inclusion, ensuring its values are embedded within the local community

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is preferred
• An understanding of the challenges encountered by individuals with special needs
• Strong communication and public speaking abilities
• Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
• Excellent networking and relationship-building skills
• Willingness to travel within the region as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with special needs
• In-depth knowledge and network of the Muslim community in your region
• Familiarity with nonprofit work, community outreach, or grassroots organizing
• Experience organizing community programs, events, or initiatives
