AMJA Fatwa 87761
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.
The activities of this organization (MUHSEN) are all from the actions of good and are forms of benevolence. We applaud, support, and pray for success for them.
As for the matter of zakah, then it has specific recipients, and so it is not allowed to transgress them. From the activities of the organization that can be financed from zakatable wealth by agreement are those that spend on people of special needs that are deserving (of zakah) due to their poverty. From its activities which a group of scholars allowed spending zakah wealth on are those which are from striving in calling to Islam, such as printing Qur’ans for the blind, making translation services available for the deaf, and all of the educational programs that teach Islam.
Based on this, it is permissible for the organization (MUHSEN) to receive zakah wealth and then spend it upon the recipients we previously mentioned. We recommend encouraging Muslims to support the organization with donations so that it may have the capacity to perform its noble role, and to only use zakah wealth for agreed upon recipients of zakah such as those mentioned. If it is in need of using some of it for activities of calling to Islam, then there is no problem due to what was mentioned that some scholars allowed this.
May peace and blessings be upon Muhammad and his family, and all praise belongs to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.
